*THE THEME OF THE CITY IN POSTMODERN LITERATURE

The article examines the stories "Elevator" by Temirlan Kylyshbek and "Heart of the Dragon" by Nurbek Nurzhanuly written in the postmodern style of modern Kazakh prose. The purpose of the scientific research is to determine the features of the image of the city in postmodern literature, to analyze the psychology of the author and the character. The methodological basis of the study was the work of scientists such as G. Simmel, L. Mumford, M. Bradbury, etc., who considered urban life in various aspects. In order to expand the boundaries of the question of the influence of the city on literature, on the poetics of urbanism in literature, this article examines the main aspects of the city as a socio-cultural phenomenon in humanitarian theory with the involvement of the works of Western European and American urban theorists. Also, when analyzing works of art, scientific studies of Kazakhstani literary critics on postmodernism, such as B. Maitanov, A. Ismakova, J. Zharylgapov, G. Eleukenova, A. Kodar, S. Kasym, A. Aliakbar, were taken into account.
Hermeneutical and comparative research methods were used in the work.
The results obtained on the basis of the study can be used as additional educational material in preparation for lectures and practical classes on the subjects "Theory of Literature", "Modern Kazakh literature", "Literary analysis and literary creativity" taught in higher educational institutions.
