The article discusses the speaking subtest as one of the complex forms of language testing. Assessment of pronunciation skills involves determining not only the level of language knowledge, but also communicative competence, the correct use of language units, systematic expression of thoughts, mastery of speech culture and pragmatic capabilities. The problem considered in the article is related to the growing interest in organizing a system of control and assessment of oral speech. The testing system for assessing knowledge of the Kazakh language, including the speaking subtest, is of interest to scientists due to the lack of scientific research on this issue. The work will highlight the features of the development and implementation of tests, as well as the possibilities of using testing as a result of research in this area. The work considers scientific, theoretical and applied aspects of methods for determining language skills and language proficiency in the field of language testing, and also analyzes a number of world testing systems using the descriptive method.
