Abstract

This article examines project-based teaching methods for Kazakh epics in higher education institutions. The purpose of the study is to identify the potential of project-based learning, develop the creative and research skills of future teachers, and foster their attitude toward national values. In other words, project-based learning guides students toward developing into independent explorers, analysts, and thinkers.

A comparative analysis of the genre characteristics and common features of epic works is conducted, and their role in the national worldview is determined. Examples demonstrate that the hero's victory and his heroism in defending the Motherland, achieved through devotion to his beloved, are the primary motif expressing the ideals cherished by the people. Such stories have continued throughout the centuries in folklore and have remained in the people's memory as models. Considering that the relevance of this topic, studied in the fields of folklore and pedagogy, remains relevant today, using the project-based method, students explore the thematic and substantive features and historical foundations of the epic, comprehensively analyze its artistic and aesthetic value, and combine this with modern teaching technologies. This approach increases students' interest in the national spiritual heritage and develops their subject-specific and meta-subject competencies. Based on surveys and discussions conducted among university students, as well as analytical work during lectures and practical classes, their views and conclusions were systematized. In this regard, drawing on the methodological findings of renowned academics and educators, effective methods were used in lessons.

The study results show that the project-based method in teaching Kazakh epic poetry increases student engagement, critical thinking skills, and a culture of teamwork.
