Abstract

The relevance of the study is due to the need to identify the role of the word-formation system, in particular the suffixation mechanism, in the cognition of the world and the formation of a national linguistic worldview. Word-formation means are used in categorization and classifying human activity in the process of cognition of the world. Suffixation is one of the most frequent methods of forming derived lexical units, through which speakers ultimately expand their knowledge of the world and of themselves. A new word is new knowledge, semantically and formally based on existing knowledge. The representation of a person in the language is studied on the material of vocabulary and phraseology, but it is the derivative vocabulary of suffixal formation that makes it possible to describe the features of categorization of different aspects of personal and social life of people. The purpose of the study is a comparative study of the process of suffixation in Russian, Kazakh and English languages on the material of derivative nominations of a person and the identification of their national and cultural originality on the basis of thematic classification. The research material included more than 1500 lexical units – nominations of persons, including 625 in Russian, 389 in Kazakh, and 511 in English, selected from the lexicographic sources. The materials were analyzed using general scientific methods and research techniques, the method of synchronous word-formation analysis, and the method of comparative description. The results of the study can be used in teaching Russian, Kazakh and English languages (morphology) in schools and universities, in studying linguacultural studies, in typological studies in comparative linguistics, as well as in lexicographic practice in compiling multilingual word formation dictionaries.
