Abstract

Akhmet Baitursynuly was a prominent early twentieth-century enlightener who played a decisive role in promoting literacy and fostering the spiritual revival of the Kazakh people. At the beginning of the twentieth century, he introduced fundamental reforms in the field of education, laid a solid foundation for the national school system, and foresightedly determined the strategic direction of future educational development. His enduring educational ideas were aimed at spreading literacy, preserving the mother tongue, and establishing a nationally grounded system of education. Today, substantial efforts are being undertaken to integrate the rich legacy of the national educator into contemporary educational practice; numerous scholarly studies have been published and major research projects are being implemented.

The purpose of this study is to highlight Akhmet Baitursynuly’s place in Kazakh spiritual life and to emphasize his substantial contribution to the enlightenment of his people, acknowledging his recognition as the “spiritual leader of the Kazakh people” (M. Auezov), the “forerunner of national science and education” (R. Syzdyk), and the “great cultivator of national writing” (N. Uali). In this regard, the study concludes that his methodological heritage constitutes an integral scientific and pedagogical concept that laid both the theoretical and practical foundations of the national education system. It demonstrates that his methodological principles are consonant with contemporary educational standards. Furthermore, their continuity with modern pedagogical paradigms is substantiated, including attention to child psychology, the connection between learning and real-life practice, the development of functional literacy, and the selection of teaching methods in accordance with the internal laws of language.
