ЖЫЙЫРМАНШЫ ДЕП ЖАЗУ ҚАЙ НОРМА?

Abstract

The aim of this article is to propose a scientifically and methodologically substantiated variant of spelling the ordinal numeral zhiyrmanshy (twentieth), which is currently widely discussed in society and has several competing forms, based on factual linguistic data. Such grammatical analyses are essential for eliminating inconsistencies in Kazakh orthography. The diversity of scholarly opinions regarding this numeral highlights the relevance of the study.

Within the framework of communicative norms, a survey has established that the word is pronounced as a disyllabic form in actual speech. In accordance with the phonetic laws of the Kazakh language, a normative spelling variant is proposed. The system of attaching the derivational suffixes

-ynshy, -inshy, which express ordinal meaning, is described. Based on the regularities of the elision phenomenon, examples demonstrate that when two vowels occur consecutively within a word, the first vowel is omitted. It is established that the form “zhiyrma” contradicts the established system of the Kazakh language. A correct normative spelling of this ordinal numeral is proposed. It is also demonstrated that the numeral “zhiyrma” is incorrectly recorded in contemporary orthographic dictionaries. All of these findings collectively indicate the practical significance of the study.
