Abstract

The article considers peculiar features found in Kazakh translation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective short story «The Red-Headed League» done in 2011. Since the translator K.Karamanuly interpreted the works of Conan Doyle from Russian into Kazakh, the article considers the original in comparison with the translation of two languages.

The analysis of the translations under study clearly shows various approaches to conveying the content of the fiction works, aimed at adapting the detective stories to the Kazakh environment. The article explains the reasons for the existence of the different approaches and peculiarities in the Kazakh translation. The paper provides a successive analysis of how the key elements of Conan Doyle’s poetics – from the story title to the image of the narrator, characteristics of the main heroes, as well as space-time settings of the story – are delivered into the Kazakh language.
