Abstract

This article examines the literary contributions of the renowned critic, playwright, and translator Kalzhan Nurmakhanov. He adeptly aligned his aesthetic and theoretical explorations with the sociocultural demands of his time. Nurmakhanov extensively analyzed the influence of Kazakh literature on Ukrainian writers and explored the dynamic interactions between the two literary traditions. He emphasized the processes of mutual enrichment between Kazakh and Ukrainian literature, actively promoting the finest examples of Ukrainian literature on the all-Union stage.

A defining characteristic of Nurmakhanov's critical and literary approach was his ability to integrate historical context with contemporary relevance in addressing pressing literary issues. His analysis of the modern literary process was not isolated but intricately connected to the cultural achievements of both Ukrainian and Kazakh traditions. Through a nuanced blend of critical review, biographical sketch, and elements of literary portraiture, Nurmakhanov comprehensively traced the evolution of Ukrainian writers' creative trajectories.

The article also provides a concise analysis of comparative literature as a pivotal branch of philological science. This field offers significant opportunities for Kazakh literature, including a clearer articulation of its identity and an organic integration into the global literary discourse. Furthermore, it facilitates the elevation of Kazakh literature's stature within the framework of world literature.
